Since I (Allen Stansbury) shut down my daily briefing e-newsletter I’ve been asked to contribute to the El Dorado County Democratic Central Committee monthly newsletter by way of a column.
The Nature of Environmental Education
The naturalist who was leading the hike was skilled at pointing out the little details. I spotted several small foamy blobs on the riverside vegetation and inquired, “What’s that?” “Oh, that’s what spittlebugs do in the springtime,” replied our hike leader. I was immediately fascinated by these tiny plant-sucking nymphs which encase themselves in foam. It was the beginning of a lifelong passion and interest in the study of nature.

El Dorado Opportunity Knocks Continuum of Care’s proposed five-year plan to combat homelessness countywide centers around four goals — stopping homelessness, increasing access to housing for all county residents, increasing access to homeless emergency response services and building collective solutions.
Campaign aims to challenge FEMA decision

Unintended consequences
Due to the recent school board decisions not to enforce the state’s mask mandate, teachers have been caught in the crossfire. These decisions were presumably made because of the recent protests, some of which went way too far —
Weak and Harmful Decision
I am compelled to write this letter to the EDUHSD because of the weak and harmful decision to ignore state health laws to pacify those that were loud, vitriolic, and even violent. The Board has made the choice to allow the State mandates to be broken, although they were elected and sworn in to uphold the law. That is a fact that is undeniable.
Hypocrisy at its worst
As we know, most Republicans voted against the infrastructure bill stating that it was a slippery slide to socialism. Now that the money has started being distributed and projects have begun, a handful of these same congresspeople are now extolling the benefits of the bill for their districts and states thus implying that they voted for the bill.
Americans are fleeing to places where political views match their own
There’s a private Facebook group with nearly 8,000 members called Conservatives Moving to Texas. Three of them are sitting at a dinner table — munching on barbecue weenies and brownies — in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. None are vaxxed.
Grant to bring sustainable workforce housing to Tahoe
The city of South Lake Tahoe, in partnership with Related California and Saint Joseph Community Land Trust, announced last week that the Sugar Pine Village project has been awarded $17,359,470 by the California Strategic Growth Council’s Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program.
Third season of forest treatments complete
For the third consecutive year partners of the French Meadows Forest Restoration Project have wrapped up another season of forest treatments in the Tahoe National Forest. French Meadows partnership treated roughly 1,000 acres using a combination of mastication, mechanical thinning, hand thinning and prescribed fires.
