Platforms and Issues

El Dorado County Democrats focus on the issues that shape everyday life — safe communities, affordable housing, reliable infrastructure, economic opportunity, environmental protection, and equal justice under the law. Together, we work toward solutions that strengthen our county for generations to come.

Evolving & Refining Priorities

The priorities below reflect the issues that have long guided our work. As our community and the broader landscape continue to change, we look forward to refreshing and strengthening our platform in 2026.

Wildfire Prevention

Wildfire threats are a serious challenge in our region. We support:

  • Reducing vegetative and community fire vulnerabilities
  • Responsible land use planning
  • Expansion of affordable fire insurance access
  • Well-maintained and hardened utility infrastructure
  • Robust fire protection and emergency services for all communities

A Strong Economy

A thriving, resilient, and sustainable local economy benefits all families:

  • Work should provide a living wage, reducing the need for multiple jobs
  • Local entrepreneurs and small businesses should be encouraged and supported
  • Agriculture plays a key role in our community and deserves continued backing

Internet Access for All

Broadband internet is essential in 21st-century life – for public safety, education, healthcare, work, and economic growth. We support efforts to make broadband:

  • Available countywide
  • Affordable for all residents
  • Stable and reliable, especially for rural and remote communities

Affordable/Workforce Housing

We envision a county where multi-generation families can live and work affordably. To help achieve this, we support:

  • Investment in critical infrastructure such as roads and water access
  • Policies encouraging affordable and workforce housing development
  • Partnerships with local nonprofits
  • Initiatives like Housing El Dorado and the Western Slope Coalition on Affordable Housing and Homelessness to address homelessness and housing needs

A Good Life for Our Veterans

Veterans who have served our country should be supported with:

  • Expanded access to healthcare and mental health services
  • Job training and housing support
  • Social service alternatives when appropriate
  • Continued community respect and acknowledgment beyond words alone

Climate Change

Addressing climate change is critical for the future of our environment and community. Our efforts include:

  • Increasing public awareness on recycling, renewable energy, and green jobs
  • Supporting local environmental groups, including
  • Tahoe Climate Change Action Network
  • Sierra Club
  • American River Conservancy
  • League to Save Lake Tahoe
  • Promoting businesses that reduce greenhouse gas emissions

We believe in promoting fairness, equity, and justice across the community as a core part of our work.
