Monday, July 9th, 6:00 p.m. — The following comment is written by Lori Anzini, Chair of the El Dorado County Democratic Party:

I’m feeling a little defeated right now.  The last two weeks have validated the unbelievable 2016 Spring forecast that if we didn’t fight hard enough, the Supreme Court would be lost. Not only do we have a fool running our Country, we have an enabling Congress that stays silent as “Trumplethinskin” continues to make our country more divided.  The falsehoods of his facts, the enabling staff members who repeat them, and the revolving door of the cabinet will continue to sink this Country like the Titanic.  It will take decades to get back what we had in 2016.

If tonight’s Supreme Court selection to fill Justice Kennedy’s seat hasn’t inspired you, what will it take?  We can only take down the current administration by sending people to D.C. who are smart and willing to represent us. We can only do this by doubling down our efforts to Get Out The Vote!  Thirty volunteers aren’t going to help us.  We need more help. It will take a large team to do this.  We need to exert as much resistance as we can to make sure the current GOP Administration is neutered permanently.

Can we count on you?  This will take all of us, and a few other allies to get the results we need not only here in El Dorado County, but throughout the State and the Country.  Sometimes I feel like Joan of Arc, at the stake.  Don’t you?

Here’s our “Do” list:  Do — volunteer to hold a neighborhood party.  Do — sign up for canvassing.  Do — sign up for phone banking, letter writing, postcard signing.  Do — be a coordinator for any of these things.  We need coordinators, willing to organize the small events.  Call us at (916) 312-3008 to commit to helping us.

Reporting from the Campaign Services Committee
Primary Election Results, as of June 24, 2018: we know the following about El Dorado County voter participation –

  • June, 2014 primary election participation = 40.08%, 106,944 registered
  • June 2018 primary election participation rate = 49.78%, 115,431 registered
  • March 31, 2018 voter pre-registration (16 & 17 year olds)  = 241
  • June  15,  2018 voter pre-registration (16 & 17 year olds) = 420

Funds needed for our General election:  $12,000.  We have only $6,000 left in our budget to do the following:

We want to target “low-propensity” voters in our County, printing of postcards, buying the postage can be expensive, but we have found much success in this.  We also want to send out email blasts and perhaps buying a professional digital marketing tool for social media.  Currently, the social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the website) are maintained by one volunteer.  If you know of someone who has professional skills to update and take on this responsibility, please call our office directly, (916) 312-3008 or email [email protected]

Here’s our Donate list (besides time and money):

An LCD panel for volunteer display (36″ to 45″ will do).  More computers – must be no more than 2 years old, and wi-fi capable. We currently have one in the office, donated by a volunteer.  During the Primary, we needed tablets, or laptops to help those phone-banking volunteers who did not have internet at home.  Phone banking is fun when you have the technology.  “We Will Train!”

Simple stuff:  Toilet paper, printer paper (multi-use), bring in rolls of 100/35 cent postage stamps (for postcards), volunteer to be our Happiness coordinator (writing thank you notes to all of our volunteers).

Want to be in a coordinator position (volunteer, of course), be a part of the HQ team.  Help us organize neighborhood captains (for party development).  Rally captains – organize making signs and getting people to attend those rallies we have now become so familiar with.

How about some love for other candidates, like Jackie Smith and Carla Neal(running for State Assembly 6 and 5).  They are both looking for volunteers to help them in this county.  Let us know that you can help and we can connect you.

How about a letter writing team?  We need creative people to guest column, opinions, or writing letters to submit to newspapers and campaign content, including this newsletter.

All in all, DO something, DONATE something, and help us all get over that edge of uncertainty.
