Who is Stephen Baird?  – A note from Amy Champ
Another “democrat” entered the race at the last minute. His name is Steven Baird. A note from Amy Champ who is the CDP regional director of AD5, 12,13, and 21. Amy is also on the CDP Rural Caucus, Vice Chair for Gold Country.

Friends,

I am writing to you about a very urgent Democratic campaign in the North State region. We need to get on board with Silke and support her campaign. Democrat Silke Pflueger has declared for Senate District 1, and she needs our support.

A State of Jefferson member, Steven Baird, has re-registered as a Democrat to pull votes away from Democrats. He is now running in the primary as a Democrat — against Silke.
(**Look at this video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22IQJRmv7kg where Baird interviews with the State of Jefferson YouTube channel).

In 2016, Baird ran for this seat as a Republican and in this interview states that his goal is to submit a bill in the California Senate to create the State of Jefferson:

We need to let the public know who the real Democrat is in this race, and we absolutely need to do our level best to get her into the general election.

A message & invitation from Jessica Morse

As I’ve been looking back on the election, even though we lost the congressional seat, we have so much to be proud of.

We had an 18 point swing in this district — among the largest swings in the country. We mobilized over 5,000 volunteers who reached out to over 300,000 voters. With a 75 percent voter turnout, we achieved a Presidential-level year turnout in a midterm election. We ended up with more votes than there are registered democrats in our district. The 4th district had the most ballots cast in the entire State, ironically making me, at 156,000 votes, among the top Congressional vote-getters in California.

We weren’t just riding the “blue wave” we actively inspired people to break party lines. We out-performed every other democrat on our ticket by five to ten points, including the governor. We turned out our base, received the majority of independent votes and a small percentage of republican votes.

It was tough to overcome the entrenched partisan hurdle, but, together, we took a significant bite out of it.  We created a movement and proved that a campaign built on inspiration and vision, rather than anger and frustration can soar.

If you want to hear a few of my insights about the race and my work on the Campfire, here’s an interview I did this week on Pantsuit Politics (my interview starts 20 minutes in):  http://www.pantsuitpoliticsshow.com/show-archives/

Coming up, we are going to have a few informal get-togethers around the district. I would love to see all of you and hear about your thoughts on the campaign and ideas for going forward.  Here are the ones coming up:

  • Friday, Feb 8th, 5:30-7:30 pmCameron Park Community Center, 2502 Country Club Dr, Cameron Park, CA
  • Sunday, Feb 10, 4:30 – 6:30 pm, Loomis Library, 6050 Library Dr, Loomis

I’m so proud and honored to have you all on my team and I’m proud of the movement we’ve started.
Thank you again,
Jessica

Volunteer opportunity!

Can you spare a little time to help local workers advance their employment? We’ve heard via Becky Guinn, that Unite Here, Local 49 is seeking some help for local workers seeking career advancement.

Christina Rosas with Unite Here, Local 49 reports,”that almost (90%) of people do not have a resume already. On top of that there is a lack of access to computers and internet.  People are desperate for better work and could benefit immensely by simply having a resume.”

Christina is requesting assistance in developing and editing resumes and cover letters for individuals who are seeking work promotions and/or better employment positions, primarily in the hospitality and food service industry.

No experience is needed.  Christina and Unite Here will look over the resume you make before its gets sent in. In addition, sample resume templates and cover letters can be provided. This work can even be done from home.

If you’d like to volunteer, please call Christina on her cell phone, 412-328-1150 or email her at [email protected]
